I think it is an old story for me, and I do not consider
anyone as potential romantic partners as long as I have found my only romantic
partner for more than 10 years ago. But if I had to think about, I would say
there are number of characteristics and behaviors that lead me to judge others
as unattractive. For example, physical beauty, verbal and nonverbal behavior
those are factors that I would consider at the first place. I really doubt that
Sociological or incidental Cues would be the one that determined someone as
potential romantic partner. I those would be the case, then how about love from
the first glance?
Overall Duck’s theory makes sense to me. Even if some elements of that theory don’t work for me, human society is not the same. There are number of people and they all different and unique.
I used to meet people who would be considered as
attractive based on preinteraction cue, but after filtering that person through
interaction cue, I ended up saying to myself “You need to skip!”
Of course, Cognitive cue was the final filter that helped me to identify my romantic partner, and I really happy that we have attitude similarity and share same values.
